“I’m in this race to fix stuff”
From Wahpeton Daily News:
WAHPETON — Eight candidates for statewide office answered questions Oct. 20 at the candidate forum at Wahpeton City Hall organized by Wahpeton Breckenridge Area Chamber of Commerce. In all eight races, their opponents did not attend.
For each office, candidates gave a 90-second opening statement, answered two questions in up to 90 seconds each and delivered a 45-second closing statement. The forum was for listening only, with no audience questions. Candidates waiting for their panel could meet voters in a room next door.
Vern Thompson
In the race for agriculture commissioner, Democratic candidate Vern Thompson and Republican incumbent Doug Goehring are competing for one seat. Goehring did not attend.
Thompson said he has traveled thousands of miles around the state and is running to address problems ranging from the state level to townships. He cited property rights, data centers, low farm prices and sugar beet growers near Wahpeton who are not making a profit.
"I'm in this race to fix stuff," Thompson said.
